Peer-to-Peer

There are many challenges that incarcerated people face on a daily basis. One of those challenges is finding a positive environment conducive to change and self-betterment. The Peer-to-Peer Community offers such a place for those willing to embrace personal growth. It is a place where like-minded individuals can live without having to deal with some of the excess stress ever-present in the prison system.

Peer to Peer gives those walking a corrective path a chance to thrive and grow on their journey back to becoming functional members of society.

It offers:

  • a cleaner living environment
  • mentors to guide community members in adopting a more positive mindset
  • classes for self-improvement and individual reflection
  • a sense of comradery – something that is lacking at most corrective institutions

Just because they are incarcerated doesn’t mean they have to believe they are alone.

The donation process offers family members a chance to not just help their loved ones, but also a way to help those involved in the Peer to Peer community. No donation can be given without the approval of administration. You will be giving approved tools for self-correction to the community as a way to help everyone experience change on a personal level. You also will be helping the community grow, prosper, and thrive.

You can donate to the Peer to Peer program at Liberty Correctional Institution through the process below. Alternatively, I am happy to assist (scroll down for information on the “Easy Way.”)

The Process

  1. Complete the Florida Department of Corrections Donation Form.
    • Download the Donation Form using the button above.
    • Fill in the form, giving a detailed list of the items. For example, instead of saying “Board Game,” you would give the specific game you are donating.
    • It is also a good idea to state why you are donating it if possible, but that is not required. Basically, the more information you can give, the better the assistant warden will be able to understand why the specific item will be beneficial for the community.
    • Note: Although the form shows an option for hand-delivering the donation, they do not accept them that way. You will have to ship the items from Amazon, Walmart, etc.
  2. Print the form, sign it, and scan it back into your computer as a pdf.
  3. Email the Form
    • Email the form and a copy of your photo ID to: Rina D. Brown, PhD, Assistant Warden of Programs, at Rina.Brown@fdc.myflorida.com, and CC: the Warden’s General Email box at LibertyCI.WardenOffice@fdc.myflorida.com and Tammy McCroskey, Classification Officer, at tammy.mccroskey@fdc.myflorida.com
    • You will get a response when they read your email, then a decision on the form’s contents at a later date.
  4. Wait for approval before making a purchase
    • If your donation is not approved, they will let you know so you can choose something else and resubmit the form if desired.
  5. Purchase and Ship
    • Once the donation is approved, you will receive a copy of the signed form. Then you can purchase the items and have them shipped to the prison.
    • Make sure you use the name “Liberty Correctional Institution” in the address and not “Liberty CI.” If the approval email indicates a different address or a name you should include, follow those instructions. But if no address is given, this is the one that I have successfully used:

LIBERTY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION
11064 NW DEMPSEY BARRON RD
BRISTOL, FL 32321-2622

One last note

The Florida prison system is less than ideal. If you know of any organizations or methods to help make it a little more humane, please comment.

Thank you for your interest in helping the folks in the Peer to Peer Dorm. They appreciate your help.
