Looking for a gift your Dungeons & Dragons teenager might actually like? Or even love? That can be tough, especially if you don’t know much about their favorite hobby. You can always go with a book, but unless you know what they already have, that can get very tricky. A mug is nice, but it’s, you know, a mug. And a new set of dice can be good, but some players have dozens more than they need. So how do you find something a little more unique without breaking the bank?
Here are a few lesser known gift ideas that have been big hits with the Dungeons and Dragons Dungeon Masters in my life, but don’t cost a crazy amount.
- The Haxtec Mini Dice Set with Hollow D20 Necklace Dice Case works as a necklace or keychain, making it an excellent accessory they can take out into the tangible world! It’s a fantastic conversation starter, and encourages a hobby that strengthens their imagination and math skills.
2. T-Shirts can be a solid option if you know about what size they wear. Here is a fun one: When The DM Smiles It’s Already Too Late – Funny Tabletop Gaming T-Shirt
3. Here’s one that’s fun for anyone old enough to be trusted with goo. In case you haven’t heard of a jail for dice, it’s a real concept. You put a bad die in jail for a while until it learns it’s lesson. Also works to encourage the other dice to give you higher rolls. Don’t look at me like that. It doesn’t have to make sense.
4. As I said, D&D books can be tricky – even journals. But these books are not about D&D. They are about a group of characters acting out a D&D campaign. Well, it’s their origins… Wait – I’m not explaining it well. Here is what the description says: “The band of adventurers known as Vox Machina will save the world. Eventually. But even they have to start somewhere. Six would-be heroes on seemingly different jobs find their paths intertwined as they investigate shady business in the swamp town of Stilben. They’ll need to put their heads– and weapons–together to figure out what’s going on…and keep from being killed in the process. Even then, whether or not they can overcome what truly lurks at the bottom of the town’s travails remains to be seen! …Collects Critical Role Vox Machina: Origins comics issues #1-6, one of the best selling digital comics ever!”

5. Finally, here is something I think is spectacular. I have a dragon similar to this that I picked up at a comic convention and I love him like a pet. It’s ridiculous. But, hey, who wouldn’t want a dragon? This one comes in different sizes and colors, and can even include an egg to live in!

Whatever you give your D&D hobbyist, they are bound to appreciate you taking an interest. Be sure to follow up by asking them about their current campaign!
